He is licensed to practice in Missouri, before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois, and the USCA for the Armed Forces. Joe is dedicated to defending individuals accused of crimes and strives to achieve the best result for each client.Joe studied law at Washington University in St. Louis. After graduating from law school and passing the bar, Joe joined the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps. He was one of the few of his JAG classmates selected to begin his career as a trial lawyer. After his basic training, Joe was stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana (now known as Fort Johnson). At Fort Polk, Joe served as a “trial attorney” for the garrison, meaning he handled prosecutions for military offenses. During his time there, Joe dealt with criminal cases ranging from misdemeanors to first-degree murder. Most of the cases he handled involved serious offenses, including sex crimes. Based on his positive trial record, he was invited to take on a dual role as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Louisiana, handling criminal cases involving civilians on the base. After his assignment at Fort Polk, Joe was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, where he served as a defense attorney. During his time there, Joe represented hundreds of soldiers accused of offenses and secured eight full acquittals for various clients in less than two years. The cases ranged from attempted murder to driving under the influence of alcohol. Most of the cases he handled involved individuals accused of sexual offenses. After leaving the Army, Joe became an Assistant Prosecutor for Christian County, Missouri. As a prosecutor, Joe's caseload primarily involved sexual crimes, child offenses, and weapon-related offenses. His work in Christian County also included cases such as domestic violence, drug and alcohol offenses, and traffic violations, including DUI. These experiences gave Joe insight into how the State builds a case and what it takes to successfully defend a client against a case.In addition to his work on criminal cases, Joe also worked in civil litigation at the Springfield office of a major civil law firm based in Kansas City. These experiences gave him a solid understanding of civil practice and the frequency with which civil and criminal issues overlap.
